Annual Charity Quiz – Feb 25th 2022

The annual PPA Quiz (sponsored by Clive Emson Auctioneers) was a fantastic full-house of members and guests, as they battled their wits against amazing questions set by our Chair Sam and delivered by the quizmaster Rob Marchant.

This year’s venue was the Portchester Community Centre, and the hall was full with eager quiz contenders, 25 teams (of up to 4 people) all eager to be the winner of the prestigious Charity Quiz trophy, and all were wondering if Churchers Solicitors would retain the trophy, with a hat-trick win this year?

With approximately 100 attendees, supporting this evening, we were able to sell over 750 raffle tickets (raising over £600 pounds) towards the grand total of £1,324.11 ! With special thanks to our sponsor Clive Emson Auctioneers, providing their sponsorship and support for the event.

Would you have known, “What animal is the Canary Islands named after?” … or “Which Island is larger, Hayling Island or Portsea Island?” … these were the types of questions that stumped, amused and bemused our contenders.

Rob Marchant delivered the quiz expertly, with humour and good pace with his grandson Freddie being a superb helper too. Iain Morrison and his partner Jen were on hand to count the scores, and Nicky provided the IT support, collating the scores and telling Rob who was where during the evening!

It was a tense evening as the top 5 teams were announced, it was everything to play for… we had a picture round, we had a local Portsmouth and surrounding areas round, sport, movies… you name it, we probably had a round for it!

Also at hand, Sau-Wan provided support, and social media activities, as well as assistance to Sam, our Chair in endeavours to make the evening run smoothly and a success. Sam did a wonderful job and her efforts were not missed.

Local takeaway Castle Takeaway provided close to 100 meals for the attendees, which was no mean-feat and apart from a little timing issue, everyone was fed! and the evening was a huge success. The final tally of the funds raised is still to come.
