Annual Property CPD Conference 2023 Round Up!
Come Rain or Shine – The Property Property Association pulled together a superb line up of speakers for this year’s annual property CPD conference, and external factors may have resulted in a delayed start, but all came together beautifully.
Tom Holloway, of Holloway Iliffe & Mitchell together with assistance from Harnish Patel, of Portsmouth City Council headed up the organising of the annual CPD event together with support from the PPA committee had a successful 2023 conference with over 50 delegates booked on, and a line up of speakers as follows:
Introduction to the site by Emma Parkin of Lakeside North Harbour Campus, always insightful and award winning workplace (2022 and 2023 South Coast Property Awards), followed by Iain Morrison, the PPA Chair, introducing us to the nominated Charities for this year – Enable Ability and Moving on Project Portsmouth.
Our industry speakers were: Claire Long, Janay Jones, Natalie Clarke of Paris Smith with their commercial and residential legal matters update.
It was interesting to hear about the government’s High Street Rental Auction Policy, which is currently in consultation, where it is a potential new power for the local authorities to bring long term(ish) vacant properties back into use. The audience were enthralled and had a plethora of questions afterwards for the Slido Q & A session. Janay gave a run through of the consultation document in a condensed view, giving us plenty food for thought. Natalie gave her Conveyancer’s view point of the residential transaction and how Anti Money Laundering Checks are so vital against ill-gotten gains and illegal activity.
Andrew Holder of The Bank of England as always, gives his overview of the economy in clear and easy to understand graphics, with a clear Q & A response session.
George Long of Charters with a Residential Markets update, especially focused on the Isle of Portsmouth, which really homed in on the local community and how the interest rate changes may or may not impact as many people as initially thought.
Nick Cox and Alex Gauntlett of Vail Williams with their Commercial Property Market Update, with a focus on the Office and Industrial sectors, the latest Prime per square foot rates across the south coast.
Andrew Hoare of Boyle and Summers with their presentation on Retro-fitting and Repurposing of buildings, and the focus to re-purpose existing buildings that have already the carbon captured within being more eco-friendly, than the carbon used in new builds. He showed some beautiful examples of projects around the globe and a similar Port location of Antwerp.
The event was also aided by the use of Slido as a means to engage the audience and pose our speakers questions that were at the forefront of the audience’s minds. It went well this interactive section of the conference.
Refreshments and Lunch were welcomed and enjoyed by all, and we thank our attendees for their support of this event and look forward to other events and more opportunities to network with our members.
Special thanks to Gemma Roberts, of Setfords Solicitors who provided additional on the day support to Sau-Wan Lai, of Wheeler & Lai Chartered Surveyors (PPA Committee), as the welcoming party.
